Aldi’s low-price Thanksgiving special

Aldi knows it’s a different Thanksgiving this season, smaller gatherings and tighter wallets, so the retailer has rolled out a full Thanksgiving dinner advertised for $30 or less.

On top of it, the retailer launched a pay-it-forward campaign, giving its employees a $30 gift card to complete its Thanksgiving needs and a second to hand out to someone in the community.

The meal includes a Butterball turkey and sides and desserts that are based on the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual Thanksgiving Dinner Cost survey, including bagged stuffing, rolls, fresh cranberries, canned pumpkin pie mix, pie crust, vegetables and more. Aldi as its known is 90% store brands.

The turkey itself goes for $.69/lb., a sign that the retailer is sticking to its low-cost leader position. “Customers expect unbeatable prices at Aldi and the holidays are no exception,” said Jason Hart, president and CEO of Aldi U.S. “While nearly every aspect of our lives is rapidly changing, we promise to continue to do everything in our power to keep prices down. We’re proud to provide shoppers everything they need for a traditional Thanksgiving meal from Aldi for less than $30.”

Aldi added the gift card giveaway for employees to use the cards themselves to help with Thanksgiving or hand it out to people in need.

“It’s our honor to offer each of our employees a Thanksgiving meal on us,” Hart said. “And with so many people in our communities facing difficult times, we felt it was important to give our employees a way to pay it forward to someone in their life who could use it.”
