Aldi shoppers gave the grocer positive feedback about pricing and product quality.

A new report from Aldi shows consumers $8.3 billion per year on groceries as one-quarter of U.S. households shop the discount grocer on an annual basis.

The grocer’s Price Leadership Report revealed that walking the aisles at the discount grocer saved consumers 43% on fresh vegetables, 25% on fresh fruit, 23% on meat, and 14% on eggs. In total, shoppers at the discount grocer saved up to 36% on an average shopping trip.

“For the first time, Aldi has third-party analyses on our brand perception, price comparisons and estimated economic impact that prove our ability to challenge retail norms pays off,” said Jason Hart, CEO of Aldi. “The results show that when it comes to value, Aldi is the undisputed leader. We’re setting the new standard for grocery retail by delivering unmatched savings to our shoppers, bringing us one step closer to becoming America’s first stop for groceries.”

Nationally, Aldi’s report found that shoppers annually spent $10,610 on brand name products versus $6,759 on Aldi private label products. In key markets, shoppers in New York saved $4,338 by shopping Aldi private label products, Miami shoppers realize savings of $4,029, and those living in Los Angeles saved $3,577 annually.

Shoppers also ranked Aldi as No. 1 in terms of value and said the grocer offers low everyday prices and quality products. Its selection also outranked the competition 2:1, and 76% of shoppers said its brands are just as good as higher-priced named brands.

Other key findings of the Aldi survey include:

• 88% of shoppers say Aldi helps them stay within budget

• The average shopping trip to Aldi is about 30 minutes

• Aldi was ranked No. 1 for having the freshest produce

• Twice the number of respondents selected Aldi over Walmart for having “unique and exciting products”

• 76% of shoppers said Aldi brands are just as good as more expensive brands

The Consumer Perception survey research was commissioned by Aldi and developed with a leading consulting firm and included 1,994 usable responses. The web survey was fielded to a panel of qualifying Aldi shoppers recruited from zip codes within a 5-mile radius of Aldi stores in the United States. Respondents were screened into the survey if they were over the age of 18 and performed at least half of their household’s grocery shopping. All survey respondents were Aldi shoppers.
