Aldi completes Virginia divisional operation and distribution center

Work on the new divisional headquarters and distribution center for Batavia, Ill.-based grocery retailer Aldi in Virginia’s Dinwiddie County has been completed ahead of schedule, reported builder A.M. King, in a statement. Located in North Dinwiddie, near one of Amazon’s fulfillment centers, the 562,000-square-foot facility will serve approximately 70 to 80 Aldi stores in the area and in eastern North Carolina. Aldi operates 11 stores in the Richmond, Va., region, according to the news release.

The $57-million project, which includes a 35,000-square-foot office space, sustainable LED lighting throughout the building and an electrical system designed for solar-powered refrigeration, is expected to create about 200 jobs.

The facility will open later this fall. Aldi operates more than 1,500 stores in 34 states and is considered one of the fastest-growing private brand retailers in the U.S.
