Raleigh, N.C., residents broke the record for most consumers attending a Wegmans Food Markets store reveal when the retailer opened its highly anticipated 100th store on Sept. 30.

The Rochester, N.Y.-based grocer confirmed that approximately 3,000 people showed up for the store’s 7 a.m. opening, breaking the company’s store opening record, according to the Durham Herald Sun, a Raleigh outlet. Wegmans also reported that about 30,000 customers visited the store throughout the day, making it the “the top store opening attendance in company history.”

It took 30 to 45 minutes for the people in a line that had wrapped around the building to get inside when the doors opened, according to Wegmans Spokesperson Jo Natale.

“We knew there was a lot of excitement, but the outpouring we saw yesterday was beyond anything we could’ve hoped for,” Wegmans Store Manager Hallie Johnston told the Durham Herald Sun.
