Wegmans To Break Ground On First Charlotte Store
Wegmans will break ground on its first Charlotte store as the grocer works to expand its footprint in the state.
The 110,000-square-foot Ballantyne store, located at 11550 North Community House Road, will be the Rochester, N.Y.-based grocer’s first supermarket in the Queen City and its fifth in the state. The new location is scheduled to open in the fall of 2026.
“This groundbreaking is a pivotal step forward as we prepare for opening day,” Dan Aken, vice president of real estate and store planning with Wegmans, told Progressive Grocer. “The store design has been finalized, we’ve received all the necessary approvals, and construction is underway. We can’t wait to welcome the Charlotte community into their new Wegmans.”
Highlights of the forthcoming new store will include a produce department, a wide variety of seafood, meat, bakery, deli, and cheese options, and a large selection of wine and beer. The store will also have a market café with indoor and outdoor seating.
Wegmans plans to hire approximately 450 people to staff its new store. The grocer currently operates four North Carolina stores in Chapel Hill, Raleigh, West Cary, and Wake Forest.
