Wegmans again lands No. 2 spot on Fortune’s best workplaces list

For the 21st time, Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans Food Markets has earned a position on Fortune magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” annual list, this year ranking second as it did in 2017. No other supermarket chains are near the top of the list.

“Company loyalty runs deep at this more than century-old grocery chain, which spent $50 million on employee development last year (plus $5 million in scholarships) and filled half of its open positions internally,” Fortune noted on its website. 

Fortune pointed out that 92 percent of Wegmans’ employees say their workplace is great, with 97 percent noting great atmosphere, pride and communication; 96 percent, great bosses; and 95 percent, great challenges and rewards.
