USA Today lists 30 of America’s most popular grocers

9/13/2019

USA Today recently profiled 30 of America’s most popular grocery stores, based on a list compiled by 24/7 Tempo, a division of the Wall St. Media Network, that focuses on Yelp Reviews. The list includes a range of stores, from the Cantoro Italian Market in Plymouth, Mich., to the Berkeley Bowl Marketplace in Berkeley, Calif. The former is in Detroit and is said to be inspired by the famous Italian markets in Rome, Venice and Palermo. The latter is described as a full-service market that sells organic produce, seafood, meat, flowers and specialty Asian products.

According to USA Today, most of the 38,000 supermarkets in the U.S. — about 25,000 of them — are conventional or traditional supermarkets that generate about $2 million in annual sales. There are also specialty stores and, of course, the major retail chains.

The list include stores from all three of these segments, including Trader Joe’s, which offers mostly private brands.
