UNFI Working To Restore Computer Systems Following Hacking Incident
Nearly two weeks after United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI) was impacted by a computer hack, the company is receiving and shipping orders to customers across the U.S.
According to a report in Progressive Grocer, a sister publication of Store Brands, the company said it has made “significant progress” in restoring its electronic ordering systems, allowing it to serve customers that utilize these systems. UNFI is also using alternative processes to ensure its customers receive products.
“Our customers, suppliers, and associates remain our highest priority, and we are working closely with them every step of the way,” the company said in a statement.
News of the incident was made public in a company 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The June 9 filing said the issue began on June 5 and the company activated its incident response plan and implemented containment measures, which included proactively taking certain systems offline, including those that fulfill and distribute customer orders.
"The incident has caused, and is expected to continue to cause, temporary disruptions to the company's business operations," UNFI said in its SEC filing. "The company is working actively to assess, mitigate, and remediate the incident with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity professionals and has notified law enforcement. Pursuant to its business continuity plans, the company has implemented workarounds for certain operations in order to continue servicing its customers where possible."
