11/26/2012

peta2, the youth division of Los Angeles-based People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), said it named Trader Joe’s Chickenless Crispy Tenders as one of four finalists in the “Best Vegan Meat” category of the organization’s seventh annual Libby Awards. Sold by Monrovia, Calif.-based Trader Joe’s, the product is up against three other finalists: Tofurky Chorizo Style ground bean product, Gardein’s Southern BBQ Riblets and Health is Wealth Chicken Free Buffalo Wings.

Consumers may vote for the winners at peta2.com through Dec. 17, peta2 said. peta2 will choose the winners based on several factors — including vote count — and announce them on Dec. 19.

Now in its seventh year, peta2’s Libby Awards program recognizes people, products and companies for their animal-friendliness qualities in 22 categories, peta2 said.
