Target Looks For Big Win With Champion Partnership
As Target looks to grow its assortment of proprietary products across the store, the retailer has entered into a “strategic partnership” with sportswear brand Champion that will see hundreds of new products hit stores this summer.
According to Target, the unique line of high-quality, trend-forward activewear and sporting goods for adults and kids will be available in stores and on Target.com beginning in August.
Featuring more than 500 pieces, the assortment will include apparel, accessories and slides as well as sporting goods, accessories and bags for adults and kids. Drawing inspiration from Champion's history of more than a century in sports, the collection will feature trendy colors, exclusive premium fabrics, unique washes and detailed trims and unique Champion logo. Most items will be priced less than $40.
"When you combine Champion's legacy in sportswear with Target's style authority, the result is something special," said Rick Gomez, executive vice president and chief commercial officer with Target. "We know our consumers love new and differentiated items, and this partnership is all about merging sport, style and culture in a relevant way that resonates with them."
Following the August launch, a limited-time-only collection of classic, varsity-inspired apparel for women and men will arrive in September on Target.com and in a dedicated space in the front of most Target stores.
Target officials said the collaboration with Champion is part of the retailer’s strategy to forge partnerships with brands such as Apple, Disney, Kendra Scott, Levi's, and Ulta. Part of this effort is seen in the recent expansion of Target’s Pillowfort own brand to include more than 50 new items in bedding collections featuring popular characters from Disney and Marvel.
The Disney Princess and Marvel assortments include a variety of kids’ bedding and decor items, with most priced at less than $30. Featured items include character-inspired hooded blankets ($25), figural dolls and pillows ($20), plus sheet sets, quilts and even glow-in-the-dark comforters (all under $65) that come in soft colors with a contemporary, storybook feel.
