NSF Assurance Program
While private label goods are a strong source of revenue for many retailers, they also pose significant risks to a retailer’s brand if unable to demonstrate compliance to the high safety and quality standards consumers now expect. There’s also the risk of consumer complaints, regulatory noncompliance, and your own retailer standards of quality to uphold for a wide range of products – everything from paper towels to baby shampoo, bottled water and beyond.
The NSF International Private Label Assurance Program was developed specifically to help retailers avoid these issues and ensure the quality and consistency of their private labels products via product testing and certification, specification development and consultative audits.
Here are the top three reasons why retailers should utilize NSF International’s Private Label Assurance program:
1. Because you may not be a quality expert in everything.
With more than 65 years of expertise in writing standards, testing and certifying products for food, water and consumer goods, NSF’s laboratories in Europe, Asia and the US test everything from food equipment and drinking water filters to automotive collision replacement parts. NSF’s team of experts includes product engineers, chemists, microbiologists, toxicology professionals and regulatory specialists, trained specifically to help companies manage their regulatory compliance and quality needs. They provide some of the world’s leading retailers with solutions based on their advanced scientific capabilities and legacy in public health and safety. These NSF experts verify that private label products meet retailers’ quality standards, are comparable to national brands and comply with consumer product regulations.
2. Because you need to maintain the same high quality and consistency across a complex network of vendors.
In this increasingly competitive market, you need confidence that the characteristics of your private label product’s design, composition and labeling meet your requirements. Through the development of accurate, comprehensive product specifications, NSF can help ensure your products maintain their high quality standards over time and across multiple vendors.
By specifying product attributes up front, retailers can be assured that the final product is of the highest quality and exhibits predefined characteristics. For manufacturers, having a specification provides a basis for production, ensuring the each product created will be equal, whether it’s produced two weeks or two years later.
3. Because you need assurance a product will be a success before you launch it.
There are many uncertainties when launching a new product line. Will consumers like my product? How does my product stack up against leading national brands? Will the packaging hold up? NSF can help you answer these questions before you put the products on your shelves.
NSF’s Private Label Assurance program provides sensory panel reviews to determine consumer perceptions of your product when compared to leading brands as well as test and evaluate packaging integrity.
