SpartanNash introduces new private brand

While reporting on his company’s fiscal 2016 first-quarter earnings in a May 26 conference call, David Staples, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Grand Rapids, Mich.-based SpartanNash, stated that the company will continue to expand its store brand program for both its distribution customers and its company-owned stores. The expansion includes a new private brand called Open Acres, which SpartanNash will roll out during the upcoming year. The brand will encompass fresh items for the meat, deli, bakery and produce areas.

Staples went on to mention that the retailer's private brand unit penetration in its retail operation was 22.9 percent, above the national average, and that SpartnanNash ended the quarter with approximately 7,100 private brand items.
