Matt Reeve, SVP, sales and merchandising, Smart & Final

Among two new promotions for the Smart & Final chain of grocery stores, the organization has a new leader of its store brands portfolio. Matt Reeve has been appointed to the role of senior vice president of sales and merchandising. He carries with him nearly 30 years of grocery industry experience and has been working at the grocer since 2004, where he started as a category manager. In a later role, he helped launch the larger-format Smart & Final Extra! concept, which now accounts for more than three-fourths of the company’s locations.

He’ll oversee a breadth of own brands that include First Street (grocery, frozen, dairy and household goods), Sun Harvest (organic products) and Simply Value (budget-minded items from canned goods to cleaning products and paper products to frozen and deli goods).

Reeve is joined in his promotion by another appointment: Sean Mahony has been named senior vice president of store operations. He began working for Smart & Final nearly 27 years ago as a store associate, working at night while attending college. In 2015, Mahony became the group vice president of store operations.

Smart & Final operates 255 stores where customers can shop without a membership fee. The Smart & Final Extra! concept marries a warehouse shopping experience with traditional grocery offerings such as farm-fresh produce and natural products.
