Sam’s club is trying to patent an updated version of its popular Scan & Go service.

Developed through the company’s Sam’s Club Now epicenter, an innovation center that opened in October 2018, the company said it wants to start testing the technology designed to make its popular Scan & Go service faster and easier to use.

Since launching its Scan & Go service two years ago, the company said it has seen the technology’s popularity continuously increase. With the upcoming test, Sam’s Club plans to enhance the experience with the launch of a technology using computer vision and machine learning. Rather than having to locate the barcode and scan it just right, the camera in the app will identify the product with a simple hover and add it to the member’s shopping list.
