Raley’s holiday bag drive surpasses previous year’s by 29 percent

West Sacramento, Calif.-based Raley’s, a supermarket chain operating 123 stores in northern California and Nevada, noted that its 31st annual Raley’s Food For Families holiday bag drive donated 3,759,535 meals, surpassing the previous year’s total by 29 percent.

From Nov. 1 through Dec. 31, Raley’s customers were encouraged to donate $10 for a bag of groceries worth almost $30 retail. As a result, 144,597 total bags were donated, totaling more than $4 million in food, the company stated in a press release. Each holiday bag contained more than 23 pounds of nutritious food, enough to feed a family of four 26 meals, and many of the products were store brands, according to Raley’s.
