Private Label Chocolates Sold At Wegmans Recalled
Chocolates sold by Wegmans in eight states and the nation’s capital are being recalled by the manufacturer over an undeclared milk allergen.
Mellace Family Brands California, Inc. of Warren, Ohio, issued the recall for Wegmans-branded semi-sweet chocolate nonpareils. The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the product contained a milk allergen and was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk. A subsequent investigation indicated the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the suppliers’ manufacturing process.
This product was distributed through Wegmans retail stores in Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
An alert from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration said those who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product. No illnesses have been reported.
