NutriFusion’s All-Natural Nutrient Additive Beats the Heat
A Hilton Head, S.C.-based company is making it easier for private label suppliers and their retailer partners to enhance the nutritional profile of store brand food products — even those products subjected to commercial processing conditions that typically result in nutrient loss. The company NutriFusion, recently announced the debut of GrandFusion, a tasteless, nutrient-active, shelf-stable dry powder made from fruit and/or vegetables.
The powder is created when whole fruit and vegetables, including their skins and cores, are coated with a stabilizing product, then dehydrated and ground into powder, the company explained. This coating allows the powdered fruit and vegetables to maintain their nutrient, phytonutrient and antioxidant values when mixed with wet or dry food products during commercial processing. The company provides 10 different blends that focus on a variety of key vitamins and micronutrients.
“Oftentimes, the consumer thinks that they are getting the nutrition of fresh fruits and vegetables from commercially processed products, but unfortunately this usually isn’t the case,” states William Grand, president and CEO, NutriFusion. “The nutrients have been destroyed during processing, so the food is nutritionally dead. That’s where the magic of GrandFusion comes in. With our product, retailers can add back those nutrients and build a better product within their store brand to sell to the customer.”
This powder is so concentrated with micronutrients that to get 25 percent of the recommended daily allowance of vitamins, one would need only about 112 milligrams, an amount that could easily sit on the tip of your baby finger, Grand says. An added bonus: When food products contain high amounts of micronutrients, retailers are able to put a variety of health claims on the label. For example, retailers could say that the food product is “an excellent source of” vitamins or “rich in” antioxidants or “contains two servings of fruit” in each serving size.
