Natural Grocers features fundraisers, giveaways and deals for Organic Harvest Month
Natural Grocers is teaming up with the nonprofit Beyond Pesticides to mark its fifth year in its commitment to being “America’s Organic Headquarters” during September, which is Organic Harvest Month. The partnership includes a fundraiser with giveaways, exclusive educational programs and discounts, among other offerings throughout the month.
The Lakewood, Colo.-based retailer, which only sells USDA-Certified Organic product, is kicking off the partnership with the goal of raising $100,000 in September for Beyond Pesticides. The funds wil come from two in-store programs — a $1 donation from the retailer for every purchase of a $1.99 reusable “Organic Month Headquarters” shopping bag, and customer contributions made at checkout. The company also is working with Beyond Pesticides to transform Roosevelt Park and its Memorial Rose Garden in Longmont, Colo., by eliminating synthetic pesticides and fertilizers and converting to organic practices.
"At Natural Grocers we don't stop at the "Dirty Dozen" — we only sell 100% organic produce year-round because of our family's and company's dedication to improving human health, strengthening environmental health, and ensuring economic viability for future generations," said Heather Isely, Natural Grocers executive vice president. "To that end, it is critical that the elimination of synthetic pesticides extends beyond what we ingest, put on our bodies and use to clean our homes, so we are proud to team up with Beyond Pesticides in their mission to transition local parks into safer gathering areas for our communities."
The month’s programming also includes an “Organic Meal in a Bag” giveaway. Customers can nominate someone who has been an inspiration to them with a short essay. Every week in September, the retailer will select three winning essays and award the nominees supplies and recipes for an organic meal, as well as a reusable shopping bag and a $5 gift card.
On the education front, Natural Grocers will feature a livestream class taught by its nutrition and quality standards specialist, Geoff Brokx, which will focus on the benefits of organic agriculture. On Instagram, Natural Grocers will be featuring some of its organic farm vendors.
Members of the retailer’s {N}power loyalty program will have access to weekly sales throughout the month, including 7% off organic produce, 10% off store-brand products and 10% off coffee and tea.
