Mount Franklin Foods acquires South Carolina candy plant
El Paso, Texas-based Mount Franklin Foods said it acquired a factory in Sumter, S.C., from the now-defunct Au’some Candy Co. The new plant, purchased for $10 million, will manufacture private label fortified candies, vitamin gummies and natural fruit snacks.
The acquisition is the candy and nut manufacturer’s first U.S. candy plant. Mount Franklin’s Sunrise Confections division operates a candy plant in Juarez, Mexico.
The company also produces nuts, snack mixes, peanut butter and organic chocolate.
