In an effort to further enhance the sustainability of its grocery offerings, Misfits Market has acquired The Rounds, a company known for restocking recurring essentials in reusable packaging.

The Rounds has built a loyal following in Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., by rethinking the last mile of grocery delivery through a near-zero-waste, recurring member experience using reusable packaging. According to Misfits Market officials, The Rounds’ model aligns with the company's ongoing efforts to reduce waste within the food system.

Each week, Misfits Market prevents an average of 500,000 pounds of food from going to waste or facing lesser outcomes. The acquisition will help Misfits expand its product assortment.

“This acquisition furthers the joint mission of both Misfits Market and The Rounds to reduce waste and inefficiency in the supply chain while expanding our offering,” said Abhi Ramesh, founder and CEO of Misfits Market. “The Rounds earned a loyal following by making low-waste, high-quality shopping seamless on a local level. We’re excited to welcome their members to Misfits Market, where that same mission continues at a national scale with more selection and deeper impact.”

Both Misfits Market and The Rounds have pioneered innovative approaches to making online grocery shopping more sustainable. These include the use of reusable packaging, eco-friendly materials, right-sizing required packaging, and improving last-mile delivery and reverse logistics capabilities.

“We have a great opportunity to advance our shared mission, fundamentally reimagining how more people access quality grocery essentials and household staples more sustainably,” said Alex Torrey, co-founder and CEO of The Rounds. “Going forward, The Rounds members will access all the benefits of Misfits Market.”

Members of The Rounds will receive a $30 credit when they join Misfits Market, along with a free year of Misfits+ (a $69 value), a membership program offering exclusive weekly grocery deals and free shipping.

Additionally, Misfits Market will expand its B2B offerings through The Rounds’ partnerships with major corporate and multifamily operators nationwide. This new distribution channel will allow Misfits to reach hundreds of thousands of additional consumers through a lower-emission delivery model.
