Meijer recalls some of its own brand mixed nuts

Salazar

Meijer is recalling more than 13,000 packages of its private brand mixed nuts over potential risk from undeclared Brazil nuts, which possess tree-nut allergens.

The 16-oz mixed nuts were sold in clear plastic packages under the Meijer brand label. The product, Fresh from Meijer - Mixed Nuts with Peanuts & Sea Salt (UPC 7-1928380863-9) with sell-by dates of 7-16-2020, 9-5-2020 and 10-15-2020 have been recalled. Customers who have purchased these should throw it away or return it to a nearby store for full refund, the company said. Those with an allergy or sensitivity to Brazil nuts should not consume the product.

Meijer said that it instituted the recall after discovering the product contained Brazil nuts despite it not being part of the product formulation or declared on the package. The recall encompasses 13,284 packages sold between Dec. 5, 2019 and March 9 at Meijer stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin. As of Thursday, no illnesses had been reported.
