Meijer to open neighborhood market under new moniker

Meijer is differentiating itself at another level — the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based grocery chain will open a new urban market with a unique format in a nod to the neighborhood in which it will be located.

The Bridge Street Market will be located in downtown Grand Rapids on the corner of two bustling streets. Meijer said the Bridge Street Market is the first-of-its-kind in the region and features a retail model intended to deliver a convenient, fresh neighborhood grocery option for those who live, work and play in the area. The store will center on accessible fresh produce and full grocery offerings for the community.

Bridge Street Market will break ground and begin construction on June 26 and open its doors in the early fall of 2018.

The community grocery store will anchor a development spanning a city block located amidst the city’s current hub of collaboration and mixed-use development, and reside alongside apartments, a parking deck and an office and retail building, according to a press release.

Meijer said the Bridge Street Market will serve as a model for future neighborhood-friendly development in the area while providing residents and businesses access to fresh food and easily accessible convenience items in a one-of-a-kind store.
