Meijer highlights $7.6M in donations to food pantries in 2020

Meijer and its shoppers did their part to help food pantries across the Midwest throughout 2020.

The retailer announced that through its Simply Give program, a total of more than $7.6 million was donated to help feed hungry families in need.

“Despite the difficult circumstances many families faced last year, we were proud to join forces with our customers to help those who needed it most,” Cathy Cooper, the senior director of community partnerships and giving said. “We care about the communities we serve and are committed to ensuring our Simply Give program makes a difference for our food pantry partners.”

A total of $2.6 million was collected through its holiday campaign, which saw the highest number of customer participation in the program’s 12-year history, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based company said.

The total $7.6 million collected in 2020 equals to 76 million meals for food pantries across the Midwest, seeing as according to Feeding America, $1 equals 10 meals.
