Lawsuit alleges companies hiding cancer-causing chemicals in talcum powder products

Salazar

A lawsuit is being brought against some of the nation’s largest distributors of talcum powder products. The suit, filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court Wednesday, alleges that manufacturers are hiding the presence of dangerous chemicals that can cause cancer, birth defects and reproductive harm.

Among the named defendants are makers of brand-name pproducts, including Johnson & Johnson, Sanofi and Valeant Pharmaceuticals. It also names retailers that sell private label talcum powder products, including CVS Health, Dollar General, Target, Walgreens and Walmart and such suppliers as Garcoa, Davion, Personal Care Products, Stone Arch Capital, Premier Brands and Thornton Industries.

The lawsuit claims that the companies are in violation of California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, which requires businesses to warn consumers before exposing them to dangerous chemicals.

The lawsuit has not specified what damages are being sought.
