Hy-Vee Inc., West Des Moines, Iowa, said it is voluntarily recalling its 1-pound bags of frozen Hy-Vee Vegetable Fried Rice and frozen Hy-Vee Chicken Fried Rice products across its eight-state region because they could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. As of May 13, no illnesses had been reported in connection with the products.
The frozen Hy-Vee Vegetable Fried Rice product being recalled is sold in 1 lb. bags, while the frozen Hy-Vee Chicken Fried Rice product is sold in 20 oz. bags. The potential for contamination was discovered after Ajinomoto Windsor, Hy-Vee’s supplier, announced it was recalling specific frozen foods because of the potential for Listeria monocytogenes. Hy-Vee said none of its other Hy-Vee brand food items are impacted by the recall.
