Hannaford highlights store brand items in campaign to fight hunger

12/11/2012

On its website, Hannaford Supermarkets, Scarborough, Maine, announced a campaign to fight hunger this holiday season. The retailer is giving its shoppers three options to help in the campaign, with two of the choices tied to Hannaford’s own-brand products.

Until Dec. 31, customers may purchase a Helping Hands box for $10, Hannaford said, which is filled with store brand essentials that food banks told the retailer they need most. Another option for shoppers is to purchase select private label food items with “Buy1 Give 1” tags through Dec. 15 — for every one of such products purchased, Hannaford will donate another to a regional food bank. Shoppers also may donate $5 at the register to their regional food bank; in return, they will receive a coupon book featuring savings on some of the items they buy most.
