Michigan-based wholesale grocery chain Gordon Food Service (GFS) is expanding its footprint in Texas with six new stores slated to open in the Houston area. The announcement marks the largest number of stores the company has opened at a time.

Each facility will employ an average of 40 full- and part-time team members and measure between 25,000 to 30,000 square feet. Individual customers as well as restaurateurs can private label bulk items, produce, prepared foods, Grab & Go meal solutions and more.

On March 14, two Houston locations will open in Houston, along with one in Katy and one in League City. Two more are slated to open in Houston at a later date.

"Gordon Food Service Store believes in the power of good food and its ability to bring people together and make moments special," said Tim Grabar, president of Gordon Food Service Stores. "We are excited to open our doors to the greater Houston community and provide the chef-quality food products our stores are known for."

The family-owned company operates over 175 stores across 13 states, and operates stores in Canada. GFS currently operates six stores and two distribution centers in Texas.
