Food Lion sells 'Food Lion Feeds' branded apples to fight hunger

9/16/2016

Food Lion, Salisbury, N.C., said it is partnering with its customers to help address hunger through its “Food Lion Feeds” bagged-apple campaign, running from Sept. 15 through Oct. 4 across the retailer’s 10-state footprint.

With the sale of each $2.99 specially marked bag of apples, Food Lion will donate six meals to local food banks in partnership with Feeding America, a Chicago-based hunger relief organization. This initiative is the second of three scheduled “Food Lion Feeds” campaigns scheduled for 2016, the retailer said.

Earlier this year, Food Lion raised money through the sale of “Food Lion Feeds” reusable bags and donated roughly a million meals to local food banks, according to the retailer.
