For the second straight year, CVS Health Corp., Woonsocket, R.I., has been named one of the top 50 community-minded companies in the U.S. by Points of Light, the world's largest organization dedicated to volunteer service, for being one of the most community-minded companies in the U.S.

Together with colleagues and customers, CVS Health last year provided more than $100 million in philanthropic support through its CVS Health Foundation as well as in corporate grants, in-kind and employee gifts, fundraising and other community investments.

The company also continues to support its largest philanthropic program, Be The First, a five-year, $50-million initiative to help deliver the nation's first tobacco-free generation. Founded in 2016, the CVS program has helped reach more than 4 million young people with healthy behavior programming, the company says, and also assists 146 colleges and universities to advocate for, adopt and implement tobacco-free campus policies.

Based in Atlanta, Points of Light was founded by former president George H.W. Bush, to engage people and resources in solving serious social problems through voluntary service. The nonprofit, nonpartisan organization established the Civic 50 five years ago to provide a national standard for superior corporate citizenship and showcase how companies can use their time, skills and other resources to improve the quality of life in the communities where they do business.

The Civic 50 survey was administered by True Impact, a company specializing in helping organizations maximize and measure their social and business value. The survey instrument consists of quantitative and multiple-choice questions that inform The Civic 50 scoring process. The Civic 50 is the only survey and ranking system that exclusively measures corporate involvement in communities.
