Costco November Sales Grow

Comparable store sales increased in the U.S. and Canada and offset a softness in e-commerce sales.

Monthly sales at Costco were up 5.7% in November as comparable store sales growth in the U.S. and Canada offset softening e-commerce sales.

For the four week period ending Nov. 27, net sales were $19.17 billion, up over sales of $18.13 billion in the comparable four-week period in 2021. Company wide comparable store sales excluding the impact of gas prices and foreign exchange rates were up 5.3% company side. This included a 4.6% increase in the United States and a 6.6% increase in Canada. E-commerce comparable store sales were down 8.9%.

The retailer reported comparable store traffic up 2.4% with the average transaction rate up 1%. Strong U.S. regions included the midwest, northwest and the San Diego area. 

For the 12 week first quarter ended Nov. 20, the company reported net sales of $53.44 billion, an increase of 8.1% from $49.42 billion last year. For the 13 weeks ended Nov. 27, Costco reported net sales of $58.36 billion, an increase of 7.9% from $54.10 billion last year.
