Frozen food items continue to play a significant role in the daily meal preparation habits of consumers, according to a new survey from the National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA).

In the survey of more than 2,000 consumers 83% of respondents said they feel frozen food makes it easier to meal plan, with 99% of respondents saying they find inspiration for dinner in the frozen aisle of their favorite grocer. Additionally, 64% said they either strongly agree or agree that frozen food helps combat the rising cost of groceries.

"For families facing rising food costs, frozen meals offer a budget-friendly solution," said Tricia Greyshock, president & CEO of NFRA. "The ability to stock your freezer with healthy and convenient meals at an affordable price, while reducing food waste, is a plus in today's economy."

Other key findings in the survey include:

  • The top three reasons consumers purchase frozen food are convenience (69%), saving time (60%), and budget-friendly (46%).
  • More than half of consumers surveyed (52%) said they purchase frozen food items for dinner.
  • Ice cream (74%) and frozen novelty items (54%) are the top two dessert choices for consumers.
  • The top three go-to frozen products for consumers are pizza (66%), ice cream (61%), and frozen meals (47%).
