Chicken recall to affect several grocers

Dozens of grocers are being affected by Tip Top Poultry Inc.'s recall for its chicken.

Rockmart, Ga.-based Tip Top Poultry Inc. has issued a recall for frozen, cooked, diced, or shredded chicken sold and packaged in September, with dozens of grocers being affected, some with their private label products.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture issued a statement warning consumers of possible listeria contamination within the chicken. The department classified it as a class 1 recall, or "a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death."

The chains impacted by the recall include The Kroger Co., Food Lion, Trader Joe's, Bi-Lo, Piggly Wiggly, ALDI, Target and others, according to the USDA. Items affected by the recall were produced from January 21 through September 24.

There have been no confirmed reports of any illnesses related to the recalled products.
