Leon Bergmann has stepped down as Save A Lot's CEO.

There’s a change at the top at Save A Lot as CEO Leon Bergmann has left the company less than two years after he joined the discount grocer.

Fred Boehler, a member of the company’s board of directors, has been named as the company’s interim CEO. A search for Bergmann’s replacement has started. Boehler has 30 years of experience in the business world that includes his time at Americold Logistics, where he served as president and CEO.

A Save A Lot spokesperson told Progressive Grocer, a sister publication of Store Brands, that Bergmann announced his resignation following a personal decision to relocate to California and dedicate more time to his family.

Bergmann joined Save A Lot in February of 2022 and brought with him more than 20 years of experience in the grocery and wholesale industries. Prior to joining Save A Lot, he was CEO of Harvest Sherwood Food Distributors. He has also held leadership roles with a number of retailers and wholesalers, including C&S Holdings, Unified Grocers, and SuperValu, where he was President of the SuperValu West Region from 2017 to 2018.
