Bed Bath & Beyond is forging a partnership it said would strengthen its same-day delivery capabilities. The home retailer is working with DoorDash to allow shoppers to purchase products from Bed Bath & Beyond and buybuy Baby for same-day delivery, powered by the delivery company’s white label fulfillment platform, DoorDash Drive.

“We are thrilled to continue strengthening our Same Day Delivery services through this partnership with DoorDash,” said Rafeh Masood, executive vice president and chief digital officer at Bed Bath & Beyond.

The partnership with DoorDash Drive will allow BB&B and buybuy Baby to expand same-day delivery to more than 3,000 zip codes nationwide, making it available in nearly all store locations. The DoorDash collaboration also allows for later cut-off times for orders, making it possible to place an order hours before a store closes and still receive it the same day with live tracking.

“What's also exciting about this partnership is that we are extending order cutoff times from 1 p.m. to up to 6 p.m. local time based on store hours and customers can receive real-time updates on their order status via text, giving them real-time visibility to when their order will arrive to them,” Masood said. “We're executing on our strategy to being an omni-always retailer to provide customers with the convenience of buy online, pickup in-store, contactless curbside pickup, and multiple same-day delivery options through existing partnerships with Shipt, Instacart and now DoorDash. We will continue to provide our customers with innovative omnichannel avenues to shop with us.”

Alongside the omni-always strategy, BB&B has been executing a bold private label strategy. It is in the midst of launching 10 private brands over the next two years, including six over the course of six months. So far, the retailer has launched Nestwell, Haven and Simply Essential brands. With the DoorDash partnership, the retailer likely will strengthen its position as a go-to for home essentials.

“Amidst the pandemic we accelerated our momentum into new categories to address consumers’ heightened needs for household essentials, allowing them to get the items they needed most delivered on the same day to their doorstep,” said Christopher Payne, DoorDash COO. “We are excited to partner with leading retailer Bed Bath & Beyond to expand their reach and offer their vast selection of products to more customers in more markets across the U.S. with the ease and convenience of store-to-door delivery powered by DoorDash Drive.”
