Associated Foods Holdings, LLC, a regional wholesaler servicing independently owned and operated supermarkets in the New York City metropolitan area, has established Metropolitan City Foods, a new division formed to develop new stores under the Met Food Markets, Pioneer Supermarkets, Met Fresh Supermarkets and Metropolitan Citymarkets of NYC banners.
Retail veterans Mike Turner and John Borzumato have been appointed to lead the new division.
Turner, who joins Metropolitan City Foods as a VP responsible for sales and business development, comes from White Rose Inc., where he was director of corporate sales. Prior to joining White Rose, he held positions at the Boerner Company and Dorman Roth Cheese.
Borzumato joins Metropolitan as a VP charged with working with existing Associated retailers as well as developing a pipeline of new store opportunities in New York City, New Jersey and throughout the Northeast. He comes from C&S Wholesalers, where he was director of new business development. Prior to joining C&S, he spent 12 years at Aramark where he was director of national accounts.
“As part of our vision in acquiring Associated Foods, we saw the opportunity to become more integrated with our retailers and provide them better service,” said Andy Unanue, managing partner of AUA Private Equity Partners, LLC. “By establishing Metropolitan City Foods and building out our sales and business development efforts we can better serve the needs of our store owners while simultaneously growing our store count.”
