The report comes shortly after Congress launches hearings into the market power of big tech companies.

The Information, a technology news provider, is reporting that Seattle-based Amazon’s retail e-commerce sales will not be as high as originally thought.

In a June 13 story, The Information said that market researcher eMarketer expects Amazon’s e-commerce sales to account for 37.7% of all online retail sales in 2019, which is down from a prior estimate of 47%.

A spokesperson for eMarketer told The Information that the firm lowered its 2019 estimate for Amazon after getting “new guidance” from data in Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos' shareholder letter.

According to the article, the news comes as Congress launches hearings into the market power of big tech companies, and regulators are preparing possible antitrust probes of them.
