Amazon Consolidates Grocery Teams
Amazon is restructuring its Worldwide Grocery Stores and will bring together its Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go corporate teams.
News of the consolidation was reported by Store Brands’ sister publication Progressive Grocer.
An Amazon spokesperson said the company regularly reviews its team structures as part of an effort to ensure it is set up to best serve its customers. Following a recent review, the company identified a “very small number of roles” in its Worldwide Grocery Stores organization that are no longer required.
The spokesperson said Amazon is working with affected employees to identify new opportunities within the company. Additionally, severance and access to career transition services for those associates who choose not to stay with the company are also being offered.
As the company consolidates its grocery operations, it remains committed to investing in its grocery business, which includes Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and Amazon Go.
In recent weeks, Whole Foods Market opened new locations in Falls Church, Va., and Boca Raton, Fla. The grocer also announced it was expanding its presence in Great Britain with the March 25th opening of a new store in London’s Chelsea neighborhood. This will be Whole Foods' first new store in the United Kingdom since 2014.
