Convenience store chain Allsup’s is expanding its presence in Oklahoma with several new stores planned for 2024.

Building off its current base of stores that include five locations in the Sooner State, a recent report in The Oklahoman said seven new stores are planned. Currently under construction are stores in Broken Bow, Davis, Tushka, and Thackerville. Construction on locations in Blanchard, Elk City, and Kiowa will begin in January and three more are expected in the pipeline this year.

Of note, the company’s forthcoming Thackerville store located on Interstate 35 just north of the Texas/Oklahoma border is one that has been a long time in the making, said Tom Brown, president and director of Real Estate Acquisitions for Yesway, Allsup’s parent company.

“This will be our first ‘true’ interstate store and we wanted to make sure we got it right,” Brown told The Oklahoman. “We hope the people (of Thackerville) support the store, but most of the traffic is going to be coming off of Interstate 35.”

Allsup’s growth in Oklahoma stems largely from the company recognizing an opportunity to fill a void in the marketplace. Brown said many towns in the state were underserved with a good convenience store operator that offers quality products and a strong value proposition.

“Being adjacent to Texas was certainly beneficial, as we discussed the opportunity with our distribution partners and evaluated a number of other internal metrics before making the decision,” Brown said.
