Aldi US Names New CEO
Aldi U.S. has named a new chief executive, as current Chief Operating Officer Atty McGrath has been promoted to CEO. She replaces Jason Hart, who has been named to the executive board of Aldi South as group chief operating officer.
During her 20-year career with Aldi, McGrath has held a variety of roles, including district manager, director of operations, division vice president, and, most recently, COO. She will officially step into her new role on Sept. 1.
“On behalf of the entire Aldi U.S. team, I extend heartfelt thanks to Jason for his unwavering dedication and remarkable leadership,” she said. “I am excited to build upon our momentum, expand our footprint, and continue adapting to serve our customers.”
During his decade-long tenure as CEO of Aldi U.S., Hart led the expansion and development of the Aldi brand, overseeing the store count nearly doubling from 1,300 stores in 32 states to 2,500 in 39 states.
“I am honored to take on this new role with Aldi, supporting our global business,” Hart said. “The growth and positive development of the Aldi brand we’ve achieved together in the U.S. is a tribute to our incredible teams across the business. I look forward to working with Aldi teams around the globe to drive our growth and success.”
Aldi is in the midst of an aggressive growth strategy that calls for the grocer to open 800 new stores over the next five years, with a goal of opening more than 225 locations this year. Since the start of 2025, Aldi U.S. has opened 55 stores, with 75 more expected to open this summer in markets such as Arizona, California, Florida, and South Carolina, as well as in established regions like the Midwest and Northeast.
