ALDI, Lidl among retailers receiving Salute to Excellence Awards

5/23/2019
More than 500 food and non-food products from 88 retailers in 23 countries were considered for awards.

ALDI and Lidl were among the retailers to receive 2019 Salute to Excellence awards at the World of Private Label International Trade Show held this week in Amsterdam.

The awards, which recognize innovation in private label, were announced during the trade show staged by the Private Label Manufacturers Association (PLMA) at the RAI Exhibition Centre. More than 500 food and non-food products from 88 retailers in 23 countries were considered for awards. Retailers’ products addressing the latest consumer trends — free-from, eco-friendly, on-the-go, gourmet, etc. — were named winners.

The winning products were selected by panels of judges consisting of industry experts, including chefs, former retailers, academics, nutritionists, journalists, masters of wine and packaging specialists. The products were introduced in the past year by supermarkets, hypermarkets, drugstores and specialty retailers across Europe.

According to the PLMA website, other retailers presented with the Salute to Excellence award include Trader Joe’s for best quality with its Pinot Noir wine, Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand for best value with its Prosecco, popular Germany-based grocer REWE for its savory spreads and dips and Ireland-based Dunnes Stores for its meats and prepared meats.
