Ahold and Delhaize to merge

Delhaize Group, Brussels, and Koninklijke Ahold N.V. announced they have entered into an agreement to merge. The combined company will be named Ahold Delhaize and is expected to serve more than 50 million customers every week in the United States and Europe from its 6,500 stores. The transaction between the international retailer conglomerates is expected to be completed mid-2016, following customary regulatory clearances, associated consultation procedures and shareholder approval.
