The Fresh Market Announces Bragging Rights BBQ Sauce Challenge Winner

On its website, Greensboro, N.C.-based The Fresh Market announced the winner of its “Bragging Rights BBQ Sauce Challenge,” which challenged consumers to submit their recipes for “bone-sucking, finger-licking” barbecue sauce. Christina Moynihan was named the winner for her Haitian-inspired Caribbean Coconut BBQ Sauce, which she created while living in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The winning recipe will be developed and sold as an exclusive all-natural barbecue sauce in The Fresh Market stores nationwide.

According to The Fresh Market, Christina and her family have been working at a Port-au-Prince school for underprivileged children for more than 15 years. The family developed the sauce while working alongside the chefs at the school.

In addition to turning the winning recipe into a store brand sauce — which will be added to shelves in 2013 — The Fresh Market said it will award Moynihan a $500 gift card for The Fresh Market, a Weber Grill and a six-month supply of The Fresh Market brand hardwood lump or briquette coal. The retailer also will feature Moynihan in any vehicles used to market the sauce — including its Inspirations magazine, its e-mails, its Facebook page and more.
