1010data Adds Visualization Capabilities, QuickApps

1010data, Inc., a New York-based provider of Big Data discovery and data sharing, has released 1010data Version 7, which advances its platform in three key areas: data visualization, in-database applications and data integration in the cloud.

The release provides users with new visualization capabilities for interactive charting of Big Data at scale. In addition, it introduces QuickApps, a new technology framework that enables users to create custom in-database applications which run as part of, and extend, 1010data's native cloud-based platform. Finally, Version 7 makes integration of Big Data into the cloud easier and faster than previous versions with the release of TenUp along with an important upgrade to PowerLoader. TenUp is a new client-side utility that allows users to extract and load data directly from ODBC-compliant databases into the 1010data platform. Enhancements to PowerLoader, 1010data's Big Data loading utility for enterprise-class data, give customers new diagnostics and scalability when loading data into the cloud.

New Visualization Capabilities

Version 7 provides new visualization capabilities that allow users to instantly create charts of their data at scale. Visualization is integrated directly into the Trillion-Row Spreadsheet, meaning that—unlike other systems—analysts no longer need to deploy separate analytical platforms and visualization tools to analyze data and create charts or graphs. Instead, they can do everything in one place on all the available data, no matter how big. Interrelated queries and visualizations automatically update whenever one of them is changed.

QuickApps In-Database Applications

Version 7 introduces the QuickApps framework for powerful, in-database application development. Using a combination of built-in and user-defined widgets (input and output screen elements like text boxes, table displays and charts), user-facing applications can be created inside the 1010data platform in minutes. QuickApps can be used to create a wide variety of applications, from form-based analyses to management dashboards. QuickApps can also be combined in a modular fashion to create more complex applications. Business users can then leverage these applications to painlessly get the information they need without having to develop the data analysis themselves.

Moving forward, 1010data plans to release the QuickApps Visual Editor, which it said will make it even easier for customers to create their own applications using integrated drag-and-drop tools. The editor will provide a visual development environment that allows even non-technical users to create complex applications using visual tools, without the need to write code. Currently in Beta, the editor will be released later this year.

Data Integration Capabilities

Loading and preparing data for analysis is typically one of the most time-consuming tasks when analyzing data. With the introduction of TenUp and the upgrade of PowerLoader, companies can now spend more time actually analyzing data and less time preparing it for analysis.

TenUp, a new client-side data loading tool, allows for the direct transfer of data into 1010data from any ODBC-compliant database. Designed for the IT community, TenUp is a customer utility that makes it easy to move data from enterprise data stores into 1010data. TenUp introduces a single-step process that automatically extracts and loads data and metadata into 1010data from a myriad of databases, including Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle and Hadoop/Hive.

PowerLoader now supports extended loading sessions to accommodate truly Big Data, according to 1010data. The utility now supports the popular GPG format, which enables users to maintain the privacy of their data throughout the entire load process. Lastly, PowerLoader includes newly enhanced diagnostic reporting to help pinpoint and resolve issues when data loads do not progress as planned.

“Our service offering covers everything a customer needs with respect to analyzing and reporting on data, from setting up a customer's database, to maintaining and updating it, to helping the customer analyze data, and even developing reports for the customer," added Steier. "Our customers run the gamut. Some customers prefer that we run a complete managed service for them; others prefer to do more, or even all, of the work themselves, with our contribution being to simply provide the cloud environment and our proprietary Big Data Discovery platform. Version 7 enhancements such as improvements to PowerLoader and TenUp give customers even more flexibility in choosing the approach that works best for them."

Version 7 contains numerous other improvements in usability, scalability and performance. These improvements cover the basic platform as well as peripheral tools. For example, 1010data’s Excel Add-in has been modified to enhance stability and increase performance with many tasks now performing as much as 20 times faster than the previous version.
